About us

Crafting with wood is the creative union of materials from diverse environments, histories, and ideas.

When I work in my shop I seek to breathe new life into these woods and materials, designing pieces that are both functional and beautiful, while retaining unique characteristics from the original tree.

Perhaps more importantly, most of what I make is from wood that would otherwise end up in a landfill or campfire, or has already fallen to the forest floor. I chronically look for trees after storms, approach unsuspecting landscapers before they send logs through the chipper.

My service in the Air Force allowed me to explore, discover, and collect wood from unique regions all over the world to create items both beautiful and useful. I now bring these skills and woods to my business with Tern Leaf Customs in Homer, Alaska.
